An hour North of Phoenix, there’s a small architectural delight that was once to be served as a solution for urban sprawl.

Meet, Arcosanti. Designed by the late Italian Architect Paolo Soleri, most structures point south for heat and light purposes and there are no roads. When creating Arcosanti, Soleri had Arcology (architectural design principles for very densely populated, ecologically low-impact human habitats) in mind in the 1970’s. The idea of the city to be self-sufficient was one that desired sustainability in mind. Though the city and town were never finished, the grounds provide an outstanding inspiration to those who love architecture and the like.

Arcosanti has over 50,000 visitors a year, and as of recently, has held many conferences, concerts, and festivals.
